Year 7 enjoys visit from author Katya Balen
Posted on: 13/10/2025On Friday 10th December, Year 7 students enjoyed a talk from author Katya Balen. Year 7 are all reading Katya's book 'October, October' in their English lessons, so were excited to hear about her inspiration for writing the book. Katya also ran a writing workshop with a Year 7 and Year 8 class, where they had to imagine that they had lived off-grid like the character October and were describing the experience of having a sherbet lemon for the first time. It was an interesting challenge to describe something without being able to referr to things that October wouldn't know about.
There was also a book sale in the library at lunch time, where students could also have their books signed by Katya.
The day was a great success, which we hope will engage students even more with the book.
